HISTORY OF THE TRIUMPH TR5 / TR250
TRIUMPH TR5 succeeded to the TR4 in august
there is almost no exterior difference with its predecessor (body style
is unchanged), the TR5 benefits from a new 6 cylinders engine.
This car was built a little bit longer than one year, so it is the
rarest Triumph TR ever. It is a transition model that
inherited its body
from the TR4 and shares its engine with the TR6.
Note the Triumph TR5 PI (PI = Petrol Injection) never was exported to
United States. Instead, there was a North America version called TR
250. The Triumph TR250 was fitted with 2 carburettors instead
the Lucas injection and kept TR4 and TR4 A's solid rear axle.

TRIUMPH TR5 - TR250 WORTH ?

wanted Triumph TR. Expect to pay 25% more than a TR4 to get 2
cylinders under the bonnet. TR 250s may be cheaper, but you will get no
injection nor independant rear suspension. According to many
enthusiasts, there is very few interest in buying a TR250 in comparison
with a TR4 A (only a bit more torque) and those who want independant
rear suspension but don't care too much for performances will surely
choose a TR4A IRS.
Whatever the version is, additional options or equipment justify a
higher price. The most important are :
: a hard top with a solid rear window and frame, but with a removable
top element. It allows to convert your convertible TR4 into a "Targa
roof" fixed head coupe. This is the most useful equipment, available
only on Triumph TR4, TR5 and TR250.
